Yeah, so those Pub Games are out this week, and I'm wanting them for free for no real reason... so what did I do? I preordered F2:CE last night.

/foreheadslap.

I am COMPLETELY wait and see on this one, pub games be damned. The first game burned me with a lot of unfulfilled promises. I simply do not trust Molyneux to make good on his promises.

I hope I'm wrong, but for now this is a straight bargain bin title for me.

Fable is the next game in my queue at Gamefly. Having never played either, two looks to be very cool.

Fable was a great game, if you ignored the hype. I'll be preordering Fable 2.

The UK participating retailers for the pre order pub gmes has still not been confirmed :(

That is the reason that I'll probably be preordering it tomorrow.

I preordered it months ago because I am an Amazon Prime sheep.

Yah, I love prime a little too much too.

The thing that convinced me to pass is that I'm not even sure I WANT to use the Pubgames. I think I'd rather play the game the way it was balanced and intended. I don't want to have a huge stockpile of wealth when I enter the world as it might ruin the experience.

And if this is not really a problem because (as I've heard) the pub games are pretty difficult to win at, well, that also eliminates the one real reason I would spend time playing them over playing Braid, Bionic Commando, Castle Crashers, GeoWars 2, Galaga etc.

I desperately want Fable 2 but I think it's going to have to go against Fallout 3 and it'll lose. Heck, it may even lose out against Dead Space depending on how that turns out. This is all subject to my wife giving me a larger budget than I have so things could change, but they haven't in eight years so I don't see that starting now :)

Maybe I'll play through Fable again (on an "older" game kick at the moment - lots of PS2 and original Xbox titles in the system lately) to whet my appetite and then perhaps try and hold out for birthday/Christmas.

The other 2 games don't have multiplayer. You know how it is with Xbox 360 games, you have to get in there while the shit is HOT.

Going downtown to pickup the first one tomorrow. I have a friend who swears by it, and all the hype for the new one has caught my interest.

I rarely use multiplayer as none of my friends own any game systems so I'm usually floating out there alone and I hate random people. A lot. I'd probably play more if I had a set list of people to draw from but as it stands now, I tend go move solo. Any game that's mostly multiplayer heavy I have a tendency to steer away from which I realize is rare.

Still, cool to have that in Fable regardless.

Get a Gamefly Subscription. Then you don't have to choose.

I got my preorder code this morning from Amazon. I actually still have the option to cancel the order for some reason. I wonder if anyone's gonna be a dick and weasel out of the preorder just for the free pub games.

Let me just give you my wife's phone number so you can discuss that with her...

When he's done, I hope he'll be willing to talk it over with mine as well.

Playing the trial now, Fortune Tower is purely a push your luck game where the only thing you do is ask yourself if you should add another layer of cards or not.

Spinnerbox is just a bizarro slot machine you can't even control.

Keystone is the interesting one. A mix of Roulette, Craps and... an archway. It works though, it's only game that requires any real sort of thinking (unless you want to play maths with Fortune Tower). Payouts are huge if you bet on the inner part of the board and get lucky. I expect that's what everyone will use to farm gold.

Oh and "placing" in tournaments (what kind of moron has a slot machine tournament?) wins in-game items for Fable 2, including permanent stat boosters.

Well for the price of 3 $60 games a year you can do their "2 out at a time" plan. Maybe it's time to hint for this for Christmas. It has saved me a ton of money, and, as long as you plan it write and clear a space on your queue for the day a game is released, you will almost always get the game you want on release date.

I still haven't pre-ordered. I guess I should, since I definitely am getting Fable 2. I don't know what's holding me back; perhaps fear of orgies?

I'm gonna wait and see how everything shapes up, but that's an improvement over, "No way in hell." I love the way they're implementing co-op.

I can't use my gamertag on Live for...well, a while, due to a stupid thing I did at work, so I won't be playing the pub games. How are they? Worth playing, or just a trap?

Savok Savok on 08/14/2008 (permalink)

If you can get it for free by preordering, yay, you'll have money and items for when you finally get to play Fable 2.

To actually pay money, unless you're an achievement whore and sad completionist (*cough*) it is in indeed a trap.

All "advancing" really does is increase the stakes.

Fortune Tower is addicting the way Blackjack is addicting. I was up 40k at one point, but then lost it all and went like 100k in the hole. Thankfully you can reset your patron if things get too out of hand....wish Vegas had a reset button.
