What do you do when life is getting you down and you're problems seem to be insurmountable?
You scream "HELLLLLLLLLLLLLLLP!" at the top of your lungs and hope the Elite Beat Agents show up to inspire you with their peppy dance moves to help you overcome your problems!
Elite Beat Agents is a wonderfully simple game to explain and a total blast to play. Basically, you use your DS stylus to tap the beats on your lower DS screen in the right order and rhythm to help the agents do their job of cheer up and inspire various woed parties around the world.
The game is told in episodes in comic book block style. Each of the 16 episodes has a different party with a different problem, ranging from a forgetful taxi driver with a lead foot, to two young heiresses trapped on a desert island, to a baby-sitter trying to cajole her meat-head football star boyfriend to go steady. The problems get resolved in wildly zany ways that are really funny to watch. Each episode has a specific song that your agents will be grooving to, ranging from "Sk8er Boi" by Avril Lavigne to.. "You're The Inspiration" by Chicago (ugh!). By correctly tapping the lower screen you earn points and multipliers to keep your groove meter up and to keep your agents from falling on their faces while popping moves. At the end of each episode you'll be rated on how well you did through the episode.
The difficulty increases extremely well and you're never agape at how hard the game seemingly got from episode to episode. You'll know what you need to do better in order to proceed. Two difficulties are already unlocked at the beginning of the game: 1-star Breezin' and 2-star Crusin'. Each difficulty is headed up by a different EBA officer, who is ordered around by the voiciferous Commander Kahn. You unlock harder difficulties by completing the game on the easier difficulties. Each difficulty setting ramps up the points, tempo, and beat placings, so things can get rather difficult at the higher levels if you've not played the easier ones first for practice.
Elite Beat Agents is a simple game to learn, but very tough to master and it makes a great addition to any DS owner's library! I highly recommend it!
