Team Fortress 2 has been out for a couple of months now, and not to say it was getting bland, but this is a very welcome addition to Valves Class-Based first Person Shooter.
What benefits most from this update is the Medic Class, who was a little boring in comparisson to other classes, but the new Map, Goldrush and the new game type, Payload, are also quality updates.
What's in the Update?
-New Map: Goldrush
-New Gametype: Payload
-36 New achievments for Medic
-3 New Weapons for Medic
The Map
Goldrush is a great new map by Valve, with an array of different areas in it, from open feilds suited to Snipers to tight hallways for Pyros to twisting staircases for Demomen. It is a very well-balanced map and every class can serve a function on it, without being overpowered.
Payload
Payload is the new gametype that comes with this update. The attacking team (Blu) tries to push a Cart along preset tracks, through the 3 Capture points to win the round. The Blu team moves the Cart by standing beside it, similar to capture points, the Red team defends by preventing them from getting the Cart through all 3 capture points before the time runs out.
This Gametype is perfectly suited for this map. As the payload travels through each section of the map, each class comes into its own and gets a chance to shine. Its especially fin going spy and backstabbing everyone as the try to get the Payload through one of the narrow hallways!
The Achievments
The Medic had benefited greatly from the achievements Valve has made for it. It was previously a somewhat boring class to play, if you weren’t good at it, and it wasn’t all that rewarding to become good at it. The Achievements are a good way to making getting good at Medic entertaining, some of them, though, are very difficult to get. Foe example:
Triage: Deploy an Uber-Charge on a teammate less than a second before they're hit by a critical explosive
Big Pharma: Assist a Heavy in killing 20 enemies, where neither of you die.
Trauma Queen: Deploy 3 Uber-Charges in less than 5 minutes, and assist in 5 kills during that time.
Difficult achievments such as these have resulted in alot of people achievment whoaring, missing the point of this update, in order to get the new weapons.
The New Weapons
The New weapons for the medic are a brilliant addition. They dont break the game by unbalancing it but the do add an extra dimention to the Medic class. The New weapons are:
The Blutsauger
This is a new Syringe gun. It doesnt get crit hits, but it heals you with every hit. A great little number for retreating. You unlock it after completing 12 achievments, a reasonable ask.
The Kritzkrieg
A new Medic Gun, it heals the same as normal, but when you get your Ubercharge full, instead of invulnerability you are rewarded with 100% Critical Hits for you and your teamates for 10 seconds. Very usefull for taking out Turrets. you get it after completing 24 achievmants.
The Ubersaw
This is the weapon everyone wants. 4 hits with this and you get a maxed Ubercharge. Its a thing of beauty. However, to get it you have to complete all the 36 achievmants. A very big ask.
All in all, this is one great update. The map is great, the gametype is great and the weapons are great. Its just a shame about some of the Achievment whoaring thats going on.
