"Uncharted: Fortunate for gamers, not just Drake"

Uncharted is the best PS3 game I have had the pleasure of playing, to date, and one which my wife and 14 year old son enjoy watching me play. Yes, Uncharted is one of those rare games that is even enjoyable to watch someone else playing.
While the game has plenty of shooting and modest gore there is nothing you won't see on primetime television. The level design can be faulted for being linear, but I believe this was necessary to allow the rollicking story to be told effectively. The production values are among the best you'll find with gorgeous graphics set in ruins on a tropical island, excellent 5.1 audio (ambient sounds are the most impressive), solid voice acting (with decent dialogue - a rarity in gaming) and some of the best character animation in the industry.

The controls are a cross between Gears of War (without the chainsaws!), Prince of Persia and Tomb Raider. While primarily focusing on gunplay, this is interspersed with fisticuffs, puzzles (platform style jumping for the most part - nothing too taxing) and "easter egg" style artifact searching. The controls follow the standard conventions set by other games of this style so experienced gamers can jump right in.

The A/I is better than average and will often try to flank you if you stay in one place too much or force you out with grenades eventually, rewarding the use of cover and jumping from one spot to another. I did find the aiming controls a bit "floaty" and the amount of damage opponents could take was ridiculous, but I assume this was done to balance the difficulty of the game.

The game is of average length by today's big budget standards (8-10 hours), but includes plenty of extra's ("making of" videos, art assets, watching cutscenes again) and you can replay any level you've previously unlocked. I highly recommend this game to any PS3 owner.

A bit short but i agree with the most you wrote.

The game is just like a playable, awesome action/adventure movie!

Decent review, not as in-depth as it should be for people considering a purchase.

Incredible game, definitely a buy. Because the gameplay is so fun and the graphics never get dull, it's worth 4 playthroughs at least, once on each difficulty, which makes it a 30-40 hour game total.

More detail is needed here. . . Also, it would have also been nice to see some screen-shots or embedded video.

However, I should also say that I did enjoy reading your review. It was just a tad short. :-)

I enjoyed the game for the most part. Some of the jumping puzzles and collison detection was a little wack at some points (especially the pendulum swinging fire baskets). The graphics were gorgeous and the sounds and soundtrack thunderous.

I thought this game was OK. It certainly looks and controls nice, but it doesn't have a difficulty curve, so much as a difficulty wall. A 90 degree jump where the game goes from zero to frustrating as fuck in 20 seconds.

Also, it is pretty repetitive. The gun fights are fun for a while, but there is too many of them strung together. I also hate the respawning enemies, and the lack of ammo. I found myself running low after just about every fight, and running out to pick up more off of dead bodies is pretty much asking to be instantly killed.

Also, too many on rail sections, and vehicle controls sucked. Whenever I was on the jetski, I found myself inching out and slowly picking off enemies who peaked their heads at me, because otherwise I would have been killed.

I really liked the platforming stuff, but there just weren't enough of them. I know this sounds overly negative, and I did like the game well enough, but I still think it was just above mediocre.
